The Challenge

JE Dunn is a prominent name within the construction industry. They were recently tasked with an essential project within the heart of the Midwest: building the Children’s Healthcare Clinic of Nebraska.

To fit the growing needs of the region, and equally adhere to strict federal regulations, JE Dunn not only succeeded but surpassed expectations and deadlines. A new state-of-the-art facility with a footprint of this magnitude required transparent, frequent communication among the team and contractors.

Weekly Work Planning
Using allucent’s weekly work plan feature the team was able to get precise updates weekly, rather than monthly, resulting in unprecedented time and financial savings.

Pull Planning:
Right from the beginning of the project, the team used allucent’s pull planning tool to get an idea of the extra time they could use as challenges came up. With a keen awareness of the time they had in store, they were able to overcome scheduling conflicts without adding more time to the project.

Seamless Collaboration:
The scheduling superintendents and other members throughout the team were able to communicate quickly making meetings effective, yet brief. Subcontractors could also add their updates easily anywhere on-site, which would be seen by the scheduler, who could then approve the information and export directly to P6 with relationships already built in.

The Solution

JE Dunn is the 7th largest general builder in the United States and the #1 contractor in Nebraska. They specialize in multiple markets including healthcare, sports, and aviation. They are incredible leaders in the industry and create inspired projects that focus on quality and skill. One of JE Dunn Nebraska’s recent projects consisted of building a 66,000 square foot Children’s Specialty Care Clinic in West Omaha. This two-story building houses two x-ray rooms, clinic rooms, waiting rooms and shell spaces for future expansion.

On top of an incredibly thought out schedule, using allucent allowed JE Dunn to save hundreds of hours over the course of the project. The compatibility of allucent with other scheduling software allowed JE Dunn to take their packed 16-month schedule and finish the project a week early; not to mention under budget.

Brayton Ringsdorf, a superintendent at JE Dunn, spoke about his experience using allucent on the Children’s Clinic. “I wish I could have this on every project to be honest.” Brayton described how before allucent he would have bi-weekly calls with the scheduling department to update the schedule. Those meeting usually lasted two or three hours. Using allucent allowed the schedule to be updated in a fraction of the time. Allucent eases the process of organizing and coordinating a spreadsheet with the master schedule.
